Wang Xiang-zhai on taijiquan
April 10th, 2008 · 48 Comments · Other MA
This was posted by Spring over at EF. It’s an ….um….interesting read:
As masters of the original ‘Taijiquan’, I should recommend the Yang brothers Shaohou and Chengfu. They are also old friends of mine, thus I know that this boxing really has some knowledge of mechanics, but out of one hundred persons not even one […]

Figuring out the ghost punch
March 28th, 2008 · 4 Comments · Other MA
Dojo Rat has an interesting post on not-touch knockouts and hypnotism. Reading it made me think of my experiences with that kind of stuff — especially a technqiue called the ghost punch. My choy lai fut teacher was capable of some amazing things, but one that I remember the most was the ghost punch. One […]

We all aren’t doing the same thing — Yiquan and Taiji
August 20th, 2007 · 10 Comments · Other MA, Taijiquan
This is an amalgam of several posts made over at the Tabby Cat Yiquan blog. This makes pretty clear how different yiquan is from taiji in terms of push hands and assumptions in training and sparring. As I’ve said many times, many people are glossing over these differences as if we were all doing […]

This info below is about Qiao Chang-hung — the little nine heaven teacher of James McNeil in California. I’ve been doing some searching around for info about him and the little nine heaven style, and I haven’t found much but I have found some. The below is a general intro about the xiaojiutian system. TK Lam on Yiquan
April 26th, 2007 · 8 Comments · Other MA
The following is an article by TK Lam that was submitted by reader Myles. Lam is a Chen style guy under Ma Hong, so he addresses Yiquan from an outsider’s POV.

The Punch
