April 1st, 2008 · 9 Comments · Bagua and/or xingyi

This is the Gao style of baguazhang as done by an acquaintance of mine Warren Fox. Warren is very physically gifted and had studied otherstyles of baguazhang before dedicating himself to the Gao style as taught by Wu Guo-zheng. I wrote about this version of Gao style here.
Warren isn’t just showing form, though. His […]

Lu Hong-bin’s baguazhang

February 5th, 2008 · 16 Comments · Bagua and/or xingyi

This follows on the heels of the last post. I didn’t know that Lu was on youtube. All I can say is that this isn’t what I expected to see. I assumed this would be very similar to Sun Xi-kun’s BGZ considering they had the same teacher. Chen Pan-ling also learned from Cheng You-long. […]

Cheng style baguazhang in Taiwan

February 5th, 2008 · 6 Comments · Bagua and/or xingyi

I just stumbled across some great info. There’s a branch of Cheng style baguazhang 程派八卦掌 through Cheng Hai-ting 程海亭 (aka Cheng You-long 程有龍) here in Taiwan that I didn’t know about.
He had a student named Lu Hong-bin 盧鴻賓 that came in 1949. He was a fellow student along with Sun Xi-kun 孫錫堃 and had arranged […]

January 10th, 2008 · 6 Comments · Bagua and/or xingyi, Reviews

I’m not usually impressed by the many VCDs that come out of China. I have bought about a hundred of these things, and I’ve seen so few that really impress me. At least until yesterday.
Wudang stylist Wang Ping (王平) has an older series out that just blew my mind. I’m so glad I picked his […]
