Chen Pan-ling competition form

April 15th, 2007 · No Comments · CPL taiji

This is what the Chen Pan-ling competition form looks like. It has 42 movements that are just sequences taken right out to the tradtitional form. There are fewer repititions, as well. I love this form and I think this is a perfect example of how a competition form should be done. No fancy moves that supposedly show “advanced skills” have been added, nothing really vital has been taken out, and the flavor of the form hasn’t been compromised. The sequences bascially come straight out the traditional 99 form, making the transition to and from the traditional form a snap. I can see beginners learning this form first and then transitioning to the 99, or vice versa with no problems. Really, it’s rare to see this done this seamlessly.

This form allows traditional-minded people the opportunity to compete without having to sacrifice their taiji just for looks. This is the way it should be.
