So here we have an excellent intro to Dr. Yang’s qinna for free thanks to youtube. I assumed these clips would have been taken down by now, but I guess YMAA decided they could stay up. It is a good way to advertise Dr. Yang’s material.
One of the reasons that I’m posting these is it’s [...]

Top PH school in Taiwan
April 27th, 2007 · 6 Comments · Taijiquan
So I’d like to introduce one of, if not the top, push hands school in Taiwan — Shizong Taijiquan. As far as I can tell they have won more PH competitions that any other school here. They have competed all over Asia, and have even gone to the US to compete. I’ve seen their guys [...]

TK Lam on Yiquan
April 26th, 2007 · 8 Comments · Other MA
The following is an article by TK Lam that was submitted by reader Myles. Lam is a Chen style guy under Ma Hong, so he addresses Yiquan from an outsider’s POV.
This was submitted in response to my earlier post quoting He Jin-han on Wang Xiang-zhai, which may have been seen as small slight to Yiquan. [...]

Darius on taiji usage
April 25th, 2007 · 6 Comments · CPL taiji, Taijiquan
This is a long comment by Darius in response to the Chen apps. and qinna post. I’m putting it here due to its length, and I don’t want people ruining their eyes with the small font in the comment. Darius has lots of good insights for us to discuss.
I enjoyed the clip a lot. However, [...]

This is a clip of Chen Er-hu doing his thing against an unfortunate student. It comes from this VCD.
The good points of this VCD are that he does show many methods on the discs, but most of the first disc is taken up by him and his student demoing laojia yilu and erlu. This was [...]

He Jing-han on Wang Xiang-zhai
April 23rd, 2007 · 26 Comments · Bagua and/or xingyi
This is a very compelling quote from an article by He Jing-han on Wang. I think it will be controversial for some, but I’m glad that He laoshi said this. I like Wang’s teachings, but I think it was a big mistake to take the xing (shape) out of xingyiquan. The yi (will) needs [...]

The Punch

I love this picture. This is Gary Clyman after he supposedly bragged about how great his “golden bell” training was to Chang Dong-sheng. As in all training of that type, there was a weakness, which Chang demonstrated quite clearly. I love the grins in the background.

There are so many things I love about this performance. For one, this is taiji with a presence. Chang has character and flavor to his form. Two, many of his moves are very interesting. Look at his grasp the bird’s tail. I love that, especially the way he does push (an). His brush knee is [...]

Here’s a comment a while back by reader Orz. He had a very good commnet on the history of huleijia that I’d like to bring to your attention.
Zhaobao taiji lineage:

Although Chen Qingping(陳清萍) married [...]
