I need to thank Curtis Adkins for these pics he took of Han Qing-tan back in 1962 or 63. It was very gracious of Curtis to share these with us.
This is Han doing spear versus sword with Liang Dong Cai 梁棟材 in 228 Park.
Here, Han is teaching his taiji to a group. Han learned his taij from Yang Chn-fu at the Nanjing Guoshu Academy.
This is Liang Dong-cai teaching applications to a group. He is known in the West as T.T. Liang, one of the top students of Zheng Man-ching.

Liang Dong Cai 梁棟材
Dave,
according to my notes and infos from my old master’s writing, this would be the in the USA well known T.T. Liang (Wade-Giles: Liang Tung Tsai), a student brother of Song Zhijian (Soong Jhy Jian) and Huang Xingxian (Huang Hsinhsian), also known as the doubble initials in my old school: J.J. Song, H.H. Huang, T.T. Liang
Who would be the gentleman you met?
Please correct my if I’m wrong.

Hermann,
I think it was this guy:

As I said, everyone at ShiDa knew him and from the ahem….”agency” connection, I assumed it was him.
OK, my face is red. Obviously this was T.T Liang and I got my wires crossed. Still, the guy I met was very interesting. But maybe I didn’t miss such a big opportunity afterall. Thanks for the correction!

What a scholar!
There are still many very interesting individuals out there, always worth checking.
And I didn’t know Liang also studied with Han Qing-tan, thanks.
And very nice pics!

[...] More pics of Han Qing-tan and T.T. Liang By chessman71 Here are more photos taken by Curtis Adkins in Taiwan around 1962. (First post here.) I have posted some of his comments regarding training during that time so you can get an idea of what it was like then. Once again, I can’t thank Curtis enough for allowing me to host these photos. Enjoy. [...]

I know that Han Qintang also studied some taiji with Chen Panling - does anybody have more information on that? Did he teach Chen’s form at all, or mainly YCF Yang style?
Curious…

PDE,
Really? I hadn’t heard that. I heard that Han studied yang style directly from YCF when he taught Han and others at the Nanking GuoShu Academy. Do you have more info?

I only know that in Lei Xiaotian’s (CPL’s student) book “xingyi zonggang ji quanmu” there is a forword by Wang Xiushen in which he writes that Wang Shujin and Han Qintang researched taiji (yanjiu) with Chen Panling. Perhaps it was more ‘research’ than ’study’….I’d be interested in knowing more…

Thanks for the tip. I’ll keep my eyes out for info. That’s the one book by Lei that I don’t have.
