My last post on Chen as external will be posted this weekend. Lots of good comments on the topic, BTW.

This is the promo vid for an upcoming training opportunity in Beijing being led by Mike Martello. There are two options for training: a two-week package or one full month. I can only imagine how good you’d be after a month. Training is almost everyday and you train for 8 HOURS A DAY. Yes, that’s right. This is a lot of training for the money.

The day wil start with qigong and yiquan. After breakfast is a 2 hour and 45 minute session on taiji form and push hands. After lunch is another session of equal length in the style of your choosing. The styles that are tentatively offered are tongbeiquan, shaolin, mantis, xingyi, bagua, several styles of taiji, shuai jiao, san da, and qinna. Needless to say, this looks like an awesome trip.

I’ve never been to the mainland so I’m looking to take this opportunity to go and check out the training there. My recent Chinese studies has also led me to believe that I need to go.

At this point, I’m thinking of taking tongbeiquan or shuai jiao. Baguazhang would be my third option. In my personal training, I’m getting a bit sick of forms so the shuai jiao really appeals to me. I would love to pick up their basic training. Tongbei looks appealing also because I never really completed my training in that type of movement, and tongbei or pigua is hard to find in Taiwan.

Here’s a clip of Zhang Xin-bin — the tongbei teacher that is helping Mike set it up — doing his thing at a seminar.

There are also plans to teach miao dao and sancaijian.

Mike seems to have some surprises planned for the group and I’m sure that everyone will have a great time and get lots out of it. If this sounds appealing to you, drop Mike a line at beijingcamp@gmail.com and he’ll send you the PDF with all the details. I’ve looked it over and this sounds a lot more serious about training than other China trips.

    Dear all,

My two teachers, Mr Zhang Xinbin from the Muslem Tongbei style in Beijing, and Mr Mike Martello of Wutang Belgium, have cooperated to organize a traditional Chinese martial arts training camp. I will also be part of the organisation and will be one of the interpreters/assistants at the training camp.

Our goal for organizing this training camp is to promote traditional Chinese martial arts and enhance the friendly relations between the martial arts organizations from around the world. During the camp, we will aim at cultural exchange and friendly interaction between East and West. The participants will receive tuition from high level Chinese instructors.

Included in the program are hotel accommodations, class fees, group meals, entrance fees and transport for sightseeing. All costs are covered within the program price. Not included are plane ticket and personal expenses such as buying souvenirs, individual travel etc. Basically, it’’s only about 50 euros a day, all-in.

The styles of Shaolin, Taiji, Tongbei, Mantis, Xingyi, Bagua, Sanda, Chinese wrestling and many more will be available, depending on the needs and preferences of the participants.

I hope you will all be interested. For more info, please mail to beijingcamp@gmail.com

    Regards,

    Rene Ho

    Dave,

Go for it, train hard and well. I can’t imagine a better opportunity for real learning in CMAs, with a better teacher coordinating your experience, than this month with Mike Martello.

If I was between contracts then, I would go. I wish you the best, and I hope you’ll keep the blog here filled with regular posts about what you’re doing.

    cheers,

    Thomas

    Rene,
Your comment wil probably get buried down here. What I’ll do is write a short post to let everyone know up on the main board. I was just waiting for Mike’s okay to say it, but if your writing the comment here, then I guess it’s okay to announce it. Taka care and hope to see you in Beijing.

Please let me know if ther are any more developments.

[...] Here’s the story, some of my posts there were edited, some deleted, and one even re-wrote with stuff I didn’t even say. All that happened without my consent and they didn’t even notify me. I PMed the moderator but I never got a response back. I was especially ticked about the post that got re-wrote. The post that got deleted was about the upcoming training camp in Beijing. It seems one moderator didn’t want any competition with his own camp. I let those things slide, though, until someone posted a clip of one of my teachers doing Chen style. One of the mods then saw fit to rag on his performance and say it wasn’t even taiji, let alone Chen style. So at that point, I’d had enough. [...]
