Since I’ve been talking about sparring so much lately, I thought I’d post some decent videos of sparring that I found on youtube. Now, these aren’t perfect, but they are the best of the bunch that I could find there.

This is wing chun teacher Austin Goh. I thought it was admirable that a teacher would spar with his students, make a vidoe of it, and then put it up on youtube himself. That’s pretty cool. As you can see, he does use wing chun actions when he spars (more in some parts of the clips than others, perhaps). Some of the hand movements were pretty good. Notice — no pads. This is the way to go if you are practicing a style with more intricate hand movements.

This one I’m putting up just because I like it. The little guy has skills and he isn’t afraid to dominate the big guy. If the guy is a lot stronger than you, being aggressive like this might give you an edge, provided you’ve got the skills to back it up. Large guys don’t usually expect little guys to be aggressive. They’re used to dominating and having the little guy be afraid. Notice than even with skills, the little needs stamina to make the domination game work.
