This is the low, wide frame of zhaobao taiji.

I know everyone must have seen this a million times. But this is my all-time favorite taiji clip. Why? Because it shows some of the amazing body skills that correct taiji forms training can produce. What I love about zhaobao and huleijia is that the forms seem to be aimed more at developing the body beyond shenfa considerations like peng and chansijing. As this video shows, leg strength and flexibility are also goals to be gained through correct forms training.

Pause the video at some sections and look at what this guy’s training has done to his body. He’s built. He has a thick torso and thighs. If he hit you with fajing, you’d be knocked into tomorrow. He may lose some of that when he gets older, but here we have a model for what SERIOUS training will produce in younger people. Quite frankly, we needs LOTS MORE of this.
