Feng Zhiqiang vid for download

May 30th, 2006 · No Comments · Chen taiji

Videos on the web of Feng Zhiqiang are quite rare. That’s why I was surprised to find this vid of his whole 24 form available for download. I would highly recommend downloading this video because, like all web vids, you just don’t know how long it will be up.

The video shows Feng and a group performing the 24. Then he lectures on it and performs it again by himself. If I’m not mistaken, he may demo push hands later in that vid. I have the VCD of it and I can’t remember if the push hands is there or not, but I think it might be. Still, getting this vid is difficult so having it available for download is a great opportunity to see Feng.

For me, Feng is sort of the “model” in some respects. He’s at the top of my list of people that I think are skilled. I have heard that he’s the best in China, but that’s obviously a matter of opinion. Watching him move, I’m often struck by the relaxed nature of his movements. He’s so relaxed that he looks sloppy sometimes. He also leaves his centerline wide open on many moves, a big no-no for me at my level of development. I often remind myself when watching his videos to protect the centerline. But when you’re as good as Feng, you get to break the rules because you can get away with it. I can’t, I doubt I’ll ever be that good.

So enjoy the clip and if anyone knows of any more vids of Feng, then please share them.
